Welcome to Title 1!
We have an outstanding program to help our students at Taylor's Crossing who are struggling a bit with reading and math skills. In our reading program, we use Dibels for reading assessments, Read Naturally for fluency, and Phonics instruction along with FRY words to help them feel confident in their reading skills. I am Bobbi Campbell, Director of Title 1 Programs. We have Irene Eggenberger and Amanda Corbett who are both awesome ladies and help with our Title 1 Reading Programs.
Nicole Newell is new to our Title 1 Math program this year. She is great with math and is looking forward to a fun year with Title 1 students. She will be using AIMS Web Math Assessments as well as STAR and Accelerated Math.
Each year in our Title 1, we have a "Parent Involvement Committee. " who reads a ratifies our "Parent Involvement Policy." "Student, Parent, Teacher" compacts, are sent home at the beginning of the year and "Parent Surveys," and "Parent Involvement Training," information are sent home periodically during the school year. Parent involvement is crucial! Without parents help practicing these skills at home, it becomes more difficult for our student's to progress. As we have said from the beginning, our goal is to help our student’s progress to the point that they can exit Title 1 and continue their learning with their class.
Your child may have told you about our FRY word contest. We have encouraged them to practice at home. As I explained to my students, it’s not about who wins, but the fact they are learning the 1,000 most common words in the English Language. We start our contest over again in January with every student starting on List 1. Every student is a winner regardless of how far they get on the FRY word lists and we reward all reading students at the end of the semester.
We will continue to send home FRY word practice lists for students to practice at home. You will also find the FRY words at the top of this web page under the "other" tab. Please encourage your child to not only practice these word lists, but to practice their reading skills, whether it is books, or reading a recipe to cook something fun, or an instruction book for a game. Encourage them to read at every opportunity.
We are adding another element to our Title 1 reading program, Vocabulary! These will be learned with 3rd through 5th grades. I am adding the vocabulary list to same page as the FRY words. Please review these and practice them at home.
In math, please practice with them their basic math facts, especially the addition, subtraction, and multiplication facts. Knowing these makes all other aspects of math much easier. Flash cards work great! There is also a great web site called xtramath.org. It is free, quick, and great practice for younger grades.
Working together, I know we can help these young minds excel in the skills they are struggling with right now!
Thank you for all you support!
